princesses and tomahawks

I taught a class, Princess Diaries at the Princess Academy.

I created my first power point. Keynote is AWESOME.

Brooklynn and Taylor helped with the class. Russ ran back-up in the event of technical difficulties. Which there were so good thing he was there.

I used my iPad, bliss.

We rewarded ourselves with a trip to Olive Garden. Warm breadsticks, good company, what could be better? The girls split the Chicken and Shrimp Cabonara and topped it off with Black Tie Mouse. I enjoyed an all-you-can-eat salad, and Russ feasted on the Grilled Chicken Flatbread.

Meanwhile... Jaxsen arrived home from his first BSA camp out in Chelan. Hours spent with a bow and a tomahawk seemingly turned him into a weapons expert of sorts. Every mothers dream (ya, right). As I laid my keys on the kitchen counter Jax began,

"Mom, I know your answer will be 'no', but..."
"But what Jax?"
"Well, I know you're gonna say, 'no', I probably shouldn't..."
"Just spill it Jax, lay it on me."
"Well, I would like to get a, I know you're gonna say, 'no', but I would really like to buy, with my own money, a -- (loooong pause) a tomahawk."
"Really?" I asked amused. "I thought you were more of a bow and arrows kind of guy?"
With a rush of excitement he proclaimed, "Mom, the tomahawk is sooooo cool!"

What commenced was a physical demonstration of tomahawk throwing, a lesson in posture, along with an invitation to view the many possible tomahawks that he had searched out to possibly purchase. I did have a question though and I had to ask it.

"Jax, what are you planning to throw the tomahawk at? Are you planning on using the fence?"
"Oh, no mom, there were these big wooden deer, in Chelan, and Kyle thought he saw some at Hooked on Toys when he bought his bow."
"A big wooden deer?"
"Ya, we could put it in the back yard."
"Lovely."

I never really did understand the concept of that store. Rows and rows of toys on one side, sporting goods down the center that merges into camping and hunting gear. Complete with guns, knives, and the like. I don't think in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd be shopping on the other side, the weapons side, back in the day, when my kids were two, four and seven.

Times have definitely changed. Not that I said, "Yes" to the tomahawk, but changed none the less.

Me, Russ, Jen & Scott.

Russ and I decided to see a movie, with friends. Source Code. We enjoyed it, although the premise was disturbing.
