| "So Others May Live" |
I watched THE GUARDIAN with Brooklynn.
I cried.
I thought beyond the movie. I thought about my role as a wife, mother, friend, sister, daughter, individual. I thought about my responsibility to those around me.
To those I love
To those I call friend
To those who cross my path
I've long held the belief we can choose to be Saviors among men. We, meaning all of us, have the ability to be the hands for Christ, the hands for good, no matter our religious affiliation. We can reach out and be the anchor for another in their time of need and sometimes, when they don't recognize they're drowning, we can reach in and grab another, hang on, and not let go.
I desire love, acceptance, forgiveness, and sometimes I inwardly desire praise. Sometimes I desire recognition. Desire it because I bought into the belief that recognition increases my value. When that desire surfaces, I fight it. I remind myself of what is important.
LESSON 1-What really matters?
Jake Fischer: What's your real number?
Ben Randall: 22.
Jake Fischer: 22? That's not bad. It's not 200 but...
Ben Randall: 22 is the number of people I lost, Jake. The only number I kept track of, the only number that was important to me.
LESSON 2-Take action.
[Ben has just rescued Jake and they are being hoisted up to the helicopter]
Jake Fischer: I thought you were going fishing!
Ben Randall: What do you call this?
[the cable starts to fray and Ben makes a snap decision - to unhook himself and fall so Jake will get up safely]
Jake Fischer: What are you doing? Don't even think about it!
Ben Randall: It's not gonna hold us both.
LESSON 3-Self sacrifice.
Jake Fischer: I won't let go!
[Ben understandingly says]
Ben Randall: I know.
[and unstraps his glove]
"There's a legend—of a man who lives beneath the sea. He's a fisher of men. A last hope for all those who have been left behind. He is known as The Guardian. Ben Randall always said life is about making choices. In the end, by making his, he helped me make mine."
In the end I hope I'm like Senior Chief, Ben Randall. That I care about the one, that I don't let go, no matter the personal cost. That I understand the lesson, take action, and sacrifice So Others May Live.
That I Never Let Go.
That I Am A GUARDIAN.
Never Let Go
Can you lay your life down, so a stranger can live?
Can you take what you need, but take less than you give?
Could you close every day, without the glory and fame?
Could you hold your head high, when no one knows your name?
That's how legends are made, at least that's what they say.
Can you lose everything, you ever had planned?
Can you sit down again, and play another hand?
Could you risk everything, for the chance of being alone?
Under pressure find the grace, or would you come undone?
That's how legends are made, at least that's what they say?
We say goodbye, but never let go.
We live, we die, cause you can't save every soul.
Gotta take every chance to, show that you're the kinda man who;
Will never look back, never look down,
and never let go.
Never let go, Never let go, Never let go
- Written & Performed By Bryan Adams
